Ultrasound Accreditation

Ultrasound Accreditation and/or sonographer credentialing requirements are already in effect in many states and soon will be required for reimbursement of exams. Is your ultrasound lab accredited? If not, are the sonographers in your department registered? How is your lab preparing for the upcoming accreditation requirements?

Accreditation and sonographer credentialing are necessary for our profession. Sonographers should be registered through the ARDMS for all jobs; this is essential to keep our profession "professional". All U/S labs should be credentialed. This shows the patient and/or JAHCO that our commitment to standards and patient care is foremost in our work.

I agree with Sheila. The hospital where I work is contracting a consultant to complete our echo accreditation. It's a lot of extra work, and too much for us to take on in addition to our regular responsibilities. I think it shows that we are committed to patient care and providing quality exams.
